SunIQ: AI-Driven Solar Infrastructure Audits

SunIQ Partnership:

SunIQ is an AI-driven renewable energy technology project developed through collaboration between Birubi Energy, AI technology company PolarLabs, and leading university research partners. Supported by Australia’s Economic Accelerator and led by the University of Technology Sydney, the project focuses on advancing intelligent inspection, fault detection and predictive maintenance for next-generation solar PV infrastructure.

Project Overview:

The project combines drones, cameras, sensors and AI models to capture and analyse visual, thermal and electrical data from solar assets. By identifying faults, performance issues and potential failures earlier, SunIQ aims to improve construction quality, reduce operational downtime and support more efficient long-term maintenance of solar farms.

SunIQ aims to develop an AI-powered inspection system that enhances the construction, commissioning and maintenance of solar farms. By combining drones, cameras and sensor technologies, the system captures visual, thermal and electrical data from solar assets, enabling AI models to detect faults, identify underperformance and predict potential failures before they occur.

A cloud-based dashboard will translate complex inspection data into clear asset maps, performance indicators and actionable insights. This allows project developers, operators and asset owners to conduct inspections more efficiently, improve maintenance planning and reduce operational costs.

The initiative is expected to deliver a validated prototype, demonstrate its performance at Finley Solar Farm, and confirm its scalability for wider deployment across renewable energy infrastructure. By supporting reliable, affordable and intelligent clean energy operations, SunIQ contributes to Australia’s leadership in smart renewable technologies.

Through its collaboration with PolarLabs, Birubi Energy is integrating AI capability into renewable energy asset development and operation. This supports smarter solar O&M, data-driven asset optimisation and improved long-term performance for utility-grade solar PV and battery energy storage projects.

For Birubi Energy, SunIQ represents an important step in building a complete renewable energy development closed loop: from project origination and ready-to-build delivery to construction, grid-connected operation, AI-powered asset optimisation and long-term asset value creation.
